SPF Skincare best practices

The Sun. Our best friend and our worst enemy in equal measures! As a nation of Brits, we love the sunshine, we all look good with a bit of colour (a sign of good health, my mum used to say). The first sign of a heat wave and crowds hit the beach, stripping down eagerly and lathering on the sunscreen. What about when we’re just strolling in the park, or taking a long lunch break – do we wear sunscreen then? The answer is inevitably no. Many of us are relatively clueless when it comes to the benefits of using SPF protection in our regime, blind to the invisible sun damage that we are vulnerable to on a daily basis.

We already know that too much sun exposure with little or no protection can lead to skin cancer and premature ageing. Leathery skin, pigmented sun spots, dark tans, excessive wrinkles… we’ve all seen those women on holiday – scary thought isn’t it? Well have no fear – in true Summer time spirit Bath & Unwind have introduced a new collection of skincare products into our Summer Collection, and now you too can wise up to the benefits of SPF skincare – and prevent ageing before your time!

There’s more than one way to introduce SPF protection into your routine too – here are our favourite products of the moment..

  • Prime time

If you already use a primer to mattify your face, and ensure your makeup stays put, why not upgrade to one containing SPF? Equally if you have never tried a primer before it’s a fantastic addition to your hand bag and will ensure make up stays put – whatever the weather!

We love Becca Mineral SPF Primer SPF 30 – an oil-free formulation, make-up just glides on!

  • Tinted moisturiser

Looking for no-effort protection? Upgrade your tinted moisturiser or foundation. Very few of us will leave the house without it, so this is the easiest way to start using an SPF – minimal effort required!

Here’s a run down of the best:

  1. Dr Brandt UV SPF 30 Tinted Moisturiser – Smooths out imperfections leaving skin glowing.
  2. Perricone No Foundation Foundation SPF 30 – Lighter than a tinted moisturiser, this is the product of the moment!
  3. Bare Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation – Comes in various shades, ideal for those of you who prefer using powder.

  • Protect your eyes & lips

It’s really easy to forget our eyes and lips, when actually they are the most important area to look after. Taking care of these delicate areas can knock years off!

Try:

  1. Elizabeth Arden Prevage Eye Ultra Protection SPF 15 – Multi-defence eye care for intense hydration.
  2. Ole Henriksen Fresh Lips SPF 15 – Smells delicious, paraben free protection.

Foreign holidays are where you are likely to be exposed to stronger sun, and for longer. I recommend a proper sun lotion underneath any of the above and of course all over your body.

  • 2 in 1 face & body

In a rush? Looking for a one-hit wonder that will protect your face AND body? For holidays, my absolute favourite is Jurlique Sun Lotion SPF 30. It smells divine, is light and velvety and a little goes a long way.

Come back soon for our run down on the best in Summer hair care! In the meantime visit Bath & Unwind for all our latest additions, beauty offers & more.
