It’s been too long since we gave you guys some great products, hasn’t it? Earlier this week, Mel introduced and highlighted First Aid Beauty and some of the unique qualities of this brand. It’s a great brand for people with sensitive skin, or any skin concerns they may want to treat in a safe, non-irritating, dermatologist recommended way. This week, we are going to let three lucky people try some great products from First Aid Beauty.

Our first winner will receive a collection of full-size products from First Aid Beauty, including the Daily Face Cream, Face Cleanser, Body Moisturiser, and Gentle Body Wash, over a £50 value! However, we will select two additional winners, who will receive the Ultra Repair Cream, a £20 vale, and the Ultra Repair Lip Therapy, a £9 value, respectively.

What do you have to do to enter our giveaway?

  1. Re-tweet/share our competition posting! We want everyone to have a chance to learn about First Aid Beauty, and win some goodies!
  2. In the comments below or on the post on Facebook, tell us about your problem skin concern(s) or question(s). We ALL have one. Acne? Dryness? Redness? Oily T-zone? Enlarged pores? We will try to respond to as many comments as we can next week.** We will select our top 3 as winners on Thursday, September 1.

That’s it! We will choose the best three comments next week, winners chosen by Thursday September 1, winners will be notified either by email or on Facebook/Twitter by 5pm GMT Thursday September 1. So start sharing! We look forward to reading all the feedback! ** We are NOT doctors nor dermatologists, any advice is just that, advice and informed opinion, our best suggestions. We will do our best, of course, to point you in the right direction. If you have a serious condition, as always, please consult your doctor.

Competition closes Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 12pm GMT. Standard Competition T&Cs apply. ::Competition now closed! Thanks for all the entries, and congrats to our three wonderful winners! Karen Lancaster, Carol Turner, and Sarah Mills!::

I have oily skin and hair which causes all my skin woes. My main concern is that my skin reacts differently in different seasons so any product from the drugstores is of very little use to me. Day cream for Oily skin makes my skin oily in 2 hours time. Tinted moisturiser leaves it patchy and dry. I am supposed to use toners and scrubs to reduce pores on my face but not that anything with salicylic acid works I think.

So I’d really like to know what’s the best regime for people with combination skin type which doesnt really mess the face and needs low maintainence?

    Thanks

My main beauty concern is really just about how sensitive my skin is.

If I use too much in the way of chemicals/product – it goes red and blotchy very quickly.
It also happens if I wear makeup for more than a couple hours.

I’ve tried loads of different products from more natural products to homemade products and am just at my wits end.

I’d love to cleanse tone and moiturise regularly but am really afraid of what to use and how often to stop my skin reacting badly.

On a normal day my skin is: very very pale, and quite dry. I sometimes get the odd spot but nothing to worry about. The skin under my eyes is very thin to – almost like paper.

My problem skin concern is enlarged and blocked pores. I have tried various cleansers and face washes and clean my face religiously twice a day, but can’t see any improvement. Also tried nose strips, but that was an awful idea as I now (about a month later) have irritated and dry skin around my nose. Any suggestions would be very welcome! Thanks!

    Hello!
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway.
My skin has become much drier lately and even when I use anti-aging, deep moisturizing products, my face still seems to absorb them very quickly and feel dry again very soon, especially round my eyes. Serums seem to help but could you recommend an ‘all in one’ product that will keep my skin feeling soft and supple. I try not to use foundation – but use a tinted moisturizer instead, which seems to help, but I feel I am just adding moisturizers on top of moisturizers all day long! Is there any sort of miracle night cream I could try? I will try anything!

  41. I would love to know if there is anything that can be done for enlarged pores, I think they ruin the look of my skin and would be great to know how to minimise them. Also I suffer quite badly with spider veins around my nose and as I get older they are starting to creep along to my cheeks too. Is there anything that can be done for spider veins? Or are they something I just have to deal with?

Hi, I suffered badly with acne into my 20’s and eventually went on a perscription of Roaccutane (although i wouldnt recommend it lightly). Am pleased to say it worked very well for me and now in my early thirties i just have the odd ‘monthly’ hormonal spots that crop up from time to time. Having been focused on having my 2 babies over the last few years, my own skin pampering time has diminished so i am totally out of tune/date with what’s on the market! Ideally a daily cream that helps prevent breakouts but doesn’t dry you out too much and a good facial wash is what i’m looking for!

  87. Where do I start??

My skin hasn’t quite decided whether it’s oily or dry. I’ve tried moisturises/cleansers for every skin type but nothing keeps it moisturised without being oily. All too often I end up with dry, tight skin, only to put on the tiniest amount of moisturiser and an hour later it’s like an oil slick!

Now this, I could cope with, if not for the redness that lingers in patches across my face. Likely only noticeable to me but annoying all the same. And I still have teenage skin so I regularly get breakouts and can find no way of getting rid of the blackheads that cluster across my nose. It drives me nuts!! Help?

  111. Hi, My main problem is …… as a guy im always finding it difficult to find products that cater for MY manly ( * clears throat* !!! ) skin. I have just discovered 1 brand thats made “just for men” …. but its a shame that its all with neutral fragrance. Some of us guys also like to smell just great ( and thats why i buy different things from Bath and Unwind ). My skin is a typical combination skin …. but, after shaving ….. OOoch ! So sore ….. a great pre and after shave helps !
Any ideas for great working , and great smelling, line of products that will keep my “man-skin” from having that tight feeling … and can help my combination skin ?
    Heres hoping….

im afraid im stuck in a bit of a rut.. i still have the same skincare routine in my mid 30’s that i had in my 20’s which is usually a quick wipe round with a facial cleansing wipe, and occasionally a blob of moisturiser
i am fairly lucky that i have normal skin, occasionally oilier tzone especially at certain times in the month, and do get the odd spot again at certain times in the month.
i havent really got that many wrinkles yet, but i am starting to notice that my skin is losing its elasticity, and am fully aware that i need to address that soon before its too late
    what would you recommend?

  115. Hello Titchylin, thank you for your comment. You may find that certain cleansers will help with making your skin feel softer /satiny and not so dry. I recommend the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser which is great because it has a rich creamy texture and will preserve the small amount of natural oils you have in your skin already. Alternatively Nuxe Ultra Comfortable Face Cream has fantastic customer feedback. Using this once or twice a day should be enough and you should see and feel a significant, long lasting difference. If you try these products, please let us know how you get on.

  116. Greasy t-zone but really dry, flaky cheeks. Very irritating. Is that what you would call combination skin or oily? Many thanks, Rachel Twitter: Rachel1383 xx RTing lots!!

  119. Hello Nicole, sorry to hear you suffer from dyness and redness, I can sympathise, my skin used to be exactly the same. The trick is getting a balance between effective products that aren’t too overpowering or irritating to your skin type. The First Aid Beauty products sound ideal for your skincare woes. Although remember you need to be commited and understand that each product works on a different layer of your skin to combat a different problem, you will only see a dramatic difference if you stick to a good routine, it won’t happen overnight! Good Luck!

  123. Hi Jo, This is a tricky problem as many eye creams and gels are designed to work on the area around the eye rather than on the eye itself. This is why i highly recommend Alpha H Absolute Eye Complex because it is safe to use all over the eye and is designed to combat pigmentation. It is one of the best selling eye products in Australia where pigmentation and discolouration is a massive problem because of the sun. Good Luck, let us know how you get on if you try it.

  125. Hi Karen, thanks for your comments. I see you have a number of skincare problems you are trying to tackle, and this can be confusing as very few products are designed to help them all. If you are looking for a wonder product that i’m very confident will help all of your concerns then look no further than Alpha H Liquid Gold. This multi tasking glycolic based product is used a few times a week as an overnight treatment ( don’t use any other products with it) . It will work to minimise the pigmentation and sun spots, prevent spots occuring under the skin and will balance out the moisture levels in your skin. You will feel nervous, especially if you have dry areas to not use a moisturiser with it, but after a week of using Liquid Gold you will understand why. If in the daytime you still feel dry, First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Restore Cream would be suitable for the nights when you are not using Liquid Gold and First Aid Beauty Daily Face Cream for the daytime. I hope this helps, good luck!

  129. My main concern with my skin is dryness….I seem to suffer with dry skin on my forehead and cheeks, mostly in winter or if I’m in a centrally heated/air conditioned atmosphere. It’s a shame as I think I have quite nice skin other than that, I’m nearly 30 and am often told I look a lot younger as I don’t have any wrinkles or anything yet 🙂

  131. Hi Alison, finding enlarged pores around my nose and on my cheeks is my absolute pet hate so I feel your pain! Dr Brandt has dedicated a whole range to the fight against pores called ‘Pores No More’ that includes a number of products that will help to reduce the appearance both in the long term ( cleansers and treatments) and in the short term ( pore minimizers used under make up). I love the Dr Brandt Vacuum Cleaner and my colleague Hazel loves the Dr Brandt Hint of Tint Pore Refiner . I hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

  133. Hi Jacqueline, In order to unblock pores you need to be exfoliating on a regular basis and I recommend doing this with a microdermabrasion exfoliator which means the granules are extremely tiny but very effective to be able to get into your pores. My favourite is Alpha H Microcleanse. After scrubbing with this on damp skin you can then leave it on for 5 minutes or so as it will also work as an exfoliating mask because it contains high levels of glycolic acid – don’t be scared by this, they are active ingredients that come from fruits and flowers. I find it really helps if I trya nd wear no make up a few times a week and also avoid fake tan. This really clogs me up! 135. Hi Lesley, thanks for your comment, sorry to hear you are suffering with a bit of shine! I recommend undertaking a double pronged attack, try a mattifying moisturiser such as Nuxe Creme Fraiche Light which will regulate your sebum production whilst still ensuring your skin is being moisturised appropriately. Following this, it would be essential to wear a mattifying primer underneath your make up to ensure the shine doesnt creep back in and annoyingly ruin the hard work your make up is doing ( assuming you wear any). However a primer can be used with out make up too. I recommend Becca Resurfacing Primer for a flawless finish. Good Luck!

  137. Hi Rachel, many thanks for you comments. I believe everyone can achieve beautiful skin, and not just by buying lots and lots of expensive products. Good, clear skintone and bright eyes comes from within ( granted as well as good genes!) so firstly you need to look at your lifestlye, diet, whether you smoke, drink, what sort of things you eat, how much exercise you do, how often you sit infront of a screen, go on sunbeds, or have a lack of sleep. So the dreared hormone spots….They will always be on the lower part of your face and unfortunately are very hard to combat – without prescription medicines. Very hard, but not impossible! I suffered really badly with the spots on my chin that felt like bruises, never came to heads and scarred really badly! I started using Murad Clarifying Cleanser on my chin area only (as this is a strong product and will not be suitable for unaffected areas) . It needs to be diluted with lots of water, but seemed to really help stop the spot in it’s tracks when i felt that first tingle and hard lump. Don’t be tempted to over use this product as it will cause irritation. Also be mindful of not touching the affected area too much and make sure you regularly clean your phones and anything else regularly coming into contact with your face. With regards to your dark circles, a new amazing product has just hit our shelves here at Bath & Unwind, many of my friends have tried it and are already raving about it. Dr Brandt Dark Circles Away – is an instant brightening eye serum that boosts collagen levels and stimulates microcirculation to decrease the look of dark circles, tired, puffy & hollow eyes, lines & wrinkles and under eye bags. Hope this helps, good luck!

  139. Hi Becci, thanks for your comment. Don’t be tempted to use products that strip your skin of this new excess oil. This will only encourage your skin to fight against it and produce more! You need to start using products designed for oily to combination skin but be midful of which ones you are choosing as you maybe able to tame your skin back to a normal skin type and this oily phase may be just that..a phase, perhaps caused by hormones. Trilogy Balancing Gel Cleanser will help first thing in the morning, it has fantastic customer reviews. Try a mattifying moisturiser such as Nuxe Creme Fraiche Light which will regulate your sebum production whilst still ensuring your skin is being moisturised appropriately. Good Luck!

My main problem with my skin is combination skin…my tzone is oily, never gets spotty, but I have lots of raised bumps & pimples on my hair line and forehead. But my jaw line, around my mouth & cheeks can get quite dry and ‘dull’ looking. Id love to have that all over radiant glow of healthy looking skin.
Doing shift work doesn’t help, as my skin always looks & feels tired =(

  145. Hi Emmy, I’m hoping you haven’t tried the Murad Acne Range as this range is our best selling Acne Fighter and has unbelivable customer reviews and testimonials. Many of my friends have also used it and have been really pleased with the results. I urge you to try a starter kit – Murad Blemish Complex Kit. These products are quite strong and should be used wisely – and not over used – so start perhaps every other day whilst your skin gets used to it, using lots of water to dilute the cleanser particularly. If at the end, when you have run out of product, ( you need to stick with it, you won’t get results over night) and you still feel that there has been no improvement I will be happy to refund you, i’m that confident this will work for you! At the same time, be mindful of your lifestyle and if anything like stress, poor diet or alcohol could be causing or exasperating your acne. Good Luck , keep me posted with how you get on!

  147. Hey Jay, thanks for your comment. I am sure many women share your concern. It’s hard trying to treat all the things our skin is going though daily. First Aid Beauty’s 5 in 1 Face Cream sounds like it would be perfect for you. It’s a multi-tasking cream that protects from sun damage, works on fine lines, brightens skin and moisturises, and should be mild enough not to cause any irritation or break outs. Definitely a product and indeed range you should explore.

  151. Hi Kellieanne,
Thanks for your comments, sorry to hear you are suffering with this condition. Sadly, this is one of the hardest facial skin complaints to deal with as products rarely help. After looking at some of our customer feedback i can see quite a few customers have found that this product in particular has helped them; Dr Haushka Rose Day Cream. Other advice is to consume minimal amounts of alcohol ( as this dilates the veins and makes them appear larger), only cleanse and shower with warm water not really hot or really cold, and always use a high factor sunscreen.
I wish i could be of more help to you! Good Luck.

  155. Hi Lucy, sorry to hear you are struggling with lots of skincare woes. To avoid writing you an essay I am going to try and keep this concise!
With Oily and Combination skin the real work comes at the cleansing and toning stage. This will set you up so much more effectively for the rest of the day and the other products you are planning to use. So, don’t be tempted to use products that strip your skin of this new excess oil. This will only encourage your skin to fight against it and produce more! You need to start using products designed for oily to combination skin but be mindful of which ones you are choosing. I recommend Alpha H Triple Action Cleanser. Try a mattifying moisturiser such as Nuxe Creme Fraiche Light which will regulate your sebum production whilst still ensuring your skin is being moisturised appropriately, it has had great reviews.
I see you have a number of skincare problems you are trying to tackle, and this can be confusing as very few products are designed to help them all. If you are looking for a wonder product that i’m very confident will help all of your concerns then look no further than Alpha H Liquid Gold. This multi tasking glycolic based product is used a few times a week as an overnight treatment (don’t use any other products with it) . It will work to minimise the redness, prevent spots occuring under the skin, refine pores, elimniate backheads and will balance out the moisture levels in your skin. You will feel nervous, especially if you have dry areas, to not use a moisturiser with it, but after a week of using Liquid Gold you will understand why.
Just one more point on blackheads (my worst enemy). 159. Hi Honora,
We stock many wonderful and highly effective performance eye products, however I am conscious that you have senstive eyes and so I would recommend First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Eye Cream
Use this in the morning and in the evening ( it contains reflective light particles which will give you a subtle glow under you eye areas whilst working to plump out those wrinkles). Only use a very small amount and pat onto the orbital bone area – never take the product all the way up to and over the eye.
    I hope this helps,

  165. Hi Rachel,

Are you quite fair? Rosacea is a problem many fair women face and although the cause of the condition is still unknown, it can be linked to a change in hormones such as during pregnancy & the menopause, or if you are under emotional stress. Key symptoms include flushing or redness (particularly on the cheeks), dry skin with small bumps & pimples under the skin and visible capillaries on the face. Although it is difficult to diagnose without visiting your GP, there are certain products that will assist: Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream is a favorite among sensitive skin types due to it’s moisturising and protective qualities (they also do a ‘light’ version), and in fact you may find the whole Dr Hauschka skincare regime helpful for re-balancing your combination skin. The Dr Hauschka Normalising Day Oil is non-greasy and designed to help regulate combination skin without over-drying so would be a great product to use for you also if you find you have oily skin in places.

Also, resist the urge to use every skincare product all over your face if it doesn’t need it – your oily T-Zone doesn’t need the creamy moisturizer that you may need on your cheeks, so use a lighter moisturizer for those areas until they are a more even texture.

Are you quite fair? 167. Hi Rachel,

Your skin sounds like a typical combination type. As I mentioned to the other Rachel below, the Dr Hauschka Normalising Day Oil would be a great product to start with helping to re-balance your facial skin and you may need to use different products in different areas of your face until your complexion evens out. Also, try to resist over-cleansing or using a harsh cleanser on your face to try and combat your oily areas because it will over-stimulate your oily areas (making them more oily!) and will also increase the dryness on your cheeks – Ole Henriksen On The Go Cleanser has some fab reviews from our other customers and is a favourite of many celebrities including Jessica Alba & Justin Timberlake!

  169. Hi Clare,

I am sure you’re not the only one out there who reaches for a cleansing wipe before you hit the sack, but this is probably where the first change needs to happen as wipes are really not great for your skin (they are often drying & leave a residue on your face which can clog pores or cause a reaction) and should only be used when it’s either that or sleeping in your make up! Also I think most women, once they find a cleanser they like actually really enjoy cleansing before bed as it becomes part of your night-time ritual for sleep. You should have no problem finding a cleanser for yourself as it sounds like you have a normal skin type, so firstly decide if you think you would like a cream formula or a wash off one and go from there: An amazing cleanser that has won several awards is the This Works Clean Skin which is creamy but can be washed off and is full of nourishing essential oils which give it a gorgeous scent too.

It would be a good idea to swap your current moisturiser to an anti-ageing one and to also start using an eye cream as this is the first place fine lines may start to appear. Gatineau do an extensive range of anti-ageing moisturisers with their Melatogenine Moisturiser Cream being a bestseller along with the matching Melatogenine Eye Contour Cream. We always have great offers on Gatineau so do check out the Gatineau Limited Edition Special Offers page for their latest beauty bargains!

  173. Hi Claire,

I really feel for you – both you and your skin sounds very confused right now! The first step to increasing the radiance of your skin is to cleanse properly twice a day and a good cleanse will not only loosen any blocked pores (those ‘bumps’ you are experiencing) but will also gently exfoliate to increase radiance. The Alpha H range of products is fantastic for skin like yours: Alpha H Balancing Cleanser is a superb place to start as it will cleanse thoroughly & reduce oiliness without over drying. 2-3 times per week, mix your cleanser with the Alpha H Gentle Daily Exfoliant to shift the dead skin cells that are making your skin look dull and feel rough and really massage it into the areas with the bumps as massage alone will help to shift them. And lastly, if your flagging during a shift, a spritz of Alpha H Harmony Infusion will not only make you feel refreshed, but will do wonders for your skin as well!

  175. Hi Jonathan,

Thanks so much for your comment – it’s great to hear from a guy who wants to look after his skin! To be honest, it’s a good thing that your products smell neutral as this means they are not loaded with unnecessary fragrances & alcohol that may upset your skin and lead to soreness however I do appreciate that it’s nice to have a great smelling product that will in turn make you feel great using it.

The Korres range for men is really popular and smells great – there’s plenty of reviews from guys like yourself on there too in case you were in doubt of what you wanted! In particular, the Korres Marigold & Ginseng Aftershave Balm smells great, won’t strip your skin of it’s natural oils and would definitely get the vote from all the ladies in our office! The Korres Borage Anti-Shine Moisturiser is also a great moisturiser to use when you haven’t shaved and this moisture is essential to prevent the tight feeling you describe above. Decleor also do a superb Mens Essentials range, with every product infused with essential oils of clove & eucalyptus to not only smooth and soothe your skin, but smell good too.

Lastly, if it’s shower gels your after too, Kings & Queens Shower Gel in Tsar Peter Tobacco and King Solomon Cedar both smell as equally masculine and delicious as one another.

    Good Luck!

  177. Hi Hayley,

It is completely normal and natural for your skin to change from season to season. Just as people from colder climates such as Norway have fairer & drier skins and people from hot climates such as Africa & Egypt have darker, oilier skins, our skin is made to adapt and that is exactly what it does! If you pick a great, multi-functional cleanser such as This Works Clean Skin you shouldn’t need to change this from summer to winter as it’s oil free, balancing and non-drying. Your moisturiser however should definitely change: In summer opt for a light, oil-free formula with an added SPF such as Murad Vitalic Energizing Pomegranate Moisturizer SPF15 and in winter, a richer, hydrating and protective moisturiser that will act as a barrier against the wind & cold such as the Nuxe Créme Fraiche 24hr Moisture Cream (which smells amazing too!).

I hope that helps this (fast approaching!) winter.

  179. Hi Mo,

Murad have recently bought out a range especially for people like you called the Anti Ageing Blemish range. Depending on the severity of your breakouts, the Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser may or may not be right for your skin – it contains Salicylic Acid which will blitz those spots and Amino Acids to bind moisture to your skin & fight of free-radicals which will help to keep your skin looking young. There is also a great treatment in the range called the Murad Blemish & Wrinkle Reducer which you smooth on after cleansing and before moisturising that will tackle both fine lines and blemishes in one go.

  181. Hi Jo,

Thank you for your comment. I would suggest you try the Alpha H Liquid Gold treatment which would help in several ways. Firstly, the Glycolic Acid will resurface your skin and help reduce the appearance of open pores and smooth any roughness that has developed as a result of harsh outside weathers. Secondly, the Licorice Extract will lighten & brighten your complexion and will work with the Glycolic Acid to reduce the appearance of brown spots. This product is a gem and hailed as the ‘overnight facial’ by celebrities and fans world wide however it will cause a tingling sensation when first used so go lightly on the first few uses until your skin get used to it – it will definitely thank you for it after!

  183. Hi Sue,

We feel your fear – the neck is actually the 3rd place which shows our age after our eyes and hands so we understand your concerns. Gatineau – the anti-ageing guru or the skincare world – have not one, but two products designed for the neck & throat area. Gatineau Defi Lift 3D Lift Care for Throat & Decollete Lift Cream contains anti-ageing plant proteins called Peptides to form a 3 dimensional lifting, firming and tightening affect in the neck, throat and decollete areas over time. If you want a more immediate effect, the Gatineau Strategie Jeunesse Firming Throat Gel will lift & firm this area over time as well as providing an immediate tightening effect upon application.

If you have a bit more of a budget to play with, Perricone MD Cold Plasma Sub D For The Jawline is the choice of celebrities with its revolutionary formula should result in a visibly firmer, smoother and more chiseled appearance in the chin, jaw-line and neck areas.
