Exclusive Q&A with Trilogy

We hope you’ve enjoyed our Inspired by Provenance campaign so far. In our penultimate interview, we chat to Trilogy founder Cathering De Groot about the history behind New Zealand’s best loved skincare brand Trilogy.

Interview with Catherine De Groot – Trilogy co-founder

Can you tell us a little bit about Trilogy?

Trilogy offers high performance skin and hair care products which are ethically and environmentally responsible. I founded Trilogy in New Zealand with my sister Sarah Gibbs in 2002. We believed that, like us, women wanted to make more natural and ethical skincare choices but didn’t want to sacrifice quality.

We started the Trilogy brand with just 5 face care products. Today Trilogy consists of over 40 face, body and hair products which are loved by customers and celebrities alike. Dannii Minogue, Denise Van Outen and Charlotte Church are all fans of the brand which is fantastic!

What’s the inspiration behind the brand?

Designed around the trilogy of simplicity, purity and vitality Trilogy is all about delivering results. Sarah and I founded Trilogy shortly after discovering the skin-loving properties of rosehip oil. We were so impressed by this lightweight but potent golden oil that we decided to create an entire skincare range around this remarkable ingredient.

Trilogy products are packed with potent natural ingredients including certified organic rosehip oil – Trilogy’s hero ingredient and a key ingredient across the range. Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is the only rosehip oil clinically proven to improve the appearance of ageing skin and wrinkles as well as scars and stretch marks. It contains 80% essential fatty acids, which are widely acknowledged as the best agents for skin moisturising, renewal and regeneration.

Why do you think people should use natural products?

Natural beauty products provide the consumer with choice and the opportunity to tailor their consumption of skin, hair care and cosmetics not only to the requirements for performance but also to their desire to make more ethical purchasing decisions. Women who buy Trilogy say that they do so because it allows them to purchase products that are sound ethically and environmentally whilst still delivering the results they want.

There are many reasons why more and more people are using natural ingredients including:

  • To avoid using harsh chemicals on our skin
  • To avoid using products which are tested on animals
  • To avoid using products which contain animal derived ingredients
  • Using products which are kinder to environment (with natural skincare companies such as Trilogy who produce products which are recyclable and biodegradable).

Which are your most cherished Trilogy products in the range and why?

This is a tough question to answer as I use so many of our products. I’m a huge fan of our Sensitive Skin range as I suffer from intolerant skin and I find the Very Gentle Cleansing Cream and Very Gentle Moisturising Cream settle my skin and help prevent flare ups. I also love our Very Gentle Calming Fluid a wonderful SOS serum to help counter blemishes, redness, puffiness and irritation.

I also love our new Age Proof CoQ10 Eye Recovery Concentrate. This power-packed eye serum is a must-have pocket rocket to brighten and tighten tired and puffy eyes. I carry it everywhere!

What inspires your daily work?

I’m inspired by producing great skincare products that deliver results and which our customers love. It’s great coming to work and receiving glowing customer testimonials from our website or Facebook page. It never ceases to give me a buzz.

I’m also inspired by my sister Sarah and the dedicated Trilogy team. I couldn’t have wished for a more stimulating and fun bunch of people to work with.”

Thank you Catherine!
