Makeup for life: Jemma Kidd Q & A

As you may have noticed there have been some wonderful new makeup brands filling up the shelves of Bath & Unwind over the past few weeks. We are so excited about our new makeup category and the brands that we invited to be a part of this collection, none more so than Jemma Kidd Make Up School.

Jemma is an internationally renowned makeup artist, beauty ambassador and mother and has successfully built one of the most innovative beauty brands in the UK. I was very lucky to catch up with Jemma to talk makeup and mothering, and how her products are designed to fit into even the most busiest of lifestyles.

Emily : We are moving into the party season, is there a key on trend look that we are going to be seeing in the run up to Christmas and New Year?

Jemma:  Every year we see a new spin on the timeless party season looks: red lips, smoky eyes and a hint of festive sparkle. These tried and tested makeup looks can’t be beaten for special occasions when you want to appear groomed and polished. The crucial element for all these looks is a totally flawless complexion, so allow plenty of time to prepare skin well. For a youthful glow, apply an illuminator like my Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Crème under foundation, then hide any tell-tale signs of late nights or overindulgence by blending a little Wrinkle Rescue & Brightener around the eye area to disguise fine lines and dark circles. You’ll be party-perfect in no time!

Emily: I’m quite reserved when it comes to make up and like to stick to my routine, but I would really like to add something special this party season. What would you recommend that will be easy but impactful for me to achieve?

Jemma: No makeup look is complete without a frame of perfectly curled and defined lashes to flutter, and you’d be surprised by the difference that a simple set of false lashes can make. I like to think of them as an instant eye lift! Apply my I-Glamour Lashes to the outer corners of the eyes to add drama, give lashes length and volume, whilst also making eyes appear wider and brighter.

Emily: We are really excited to be launching Jemma Kidd here at Bath & Unwind. For anyone that is new to Jemma Kidd Make Up, could you explain the ethos behind the brand and recommend two of your ‘can’t live without’ products.

Jemma: The Jemma Kidd Make Up School range was inspired by my makeup academy in London. I found it amazing how many women at the academy told me they found the choice of cosmetics on the market overwhelming and intimidating, so I set about creating a highly-edited collection of core makeup essentials, featuring wearable colours and multi-purpose, handbag-friendly products. The line combines the very latest in skincare science and innovation with simplicity, luxury and step by step teaching, giving women the know-how and confidence to apply professional make-up for themselves.

The hero product from my line is the Skin Rescue Bio-Complex Veil SPF15. It’s a revolutionary anti-ageing moisturiser, prep, primer, illuminator and tint. It contains age-defying botanical complexes, active peptides and SPF15 for added protection. I like to think of the Veil as a ‘hybrid’ product; part skincare, part makeup. It’s perfect for busy women who are always on the go and don’t want to carry around a bag full of makeup products.

As a mum to twin toddlers, my other beauty secret weapon is the I-Perfector Prep & Brighten Duo. I run the flesh-toned eyeliner along my waterline to brighten tired-looking eyes and disguise any redness. It’s a quick and easy way to fake the appearance of eight hours’ uninterrupted sleep – a real beauty essential for new mums like me. My business partner Grace Fodor swears by it as a quick make-up fix before the morning school run.
