Summer trends with Paul Mitchell

Whether you’re flying off to far flung destinations, or heading to the British coastline for a lazy weekend; getting to grips with the summer hair trends can give your locks a new lease of life. From loose braids, to undone surfer waves, find out how Paul Mitchell can help you create the hottest looks for summer 2011…

1. Surf’s Up

Kate Hudson has long favoured the beach-look. This requires very little preparation and is an instant hit for day and evening. Try Paul Mitchell Spray Wax on dry hair, and style, mould and loosely define waves with your fingers. Scrunch until you can feel your hair starting to take to the texture.

2. Romantic Waves

If you want to create waves in naturally straight hair,  my favourite tool is the Kevin Murphy Wave.Clip. Flying off the shelves since they launched earlier this year, this is the lazy girl’s best friend. Simply clip onto the hair after applying some product and heat with your hair dryer. I use Paul Mitchell Thicken Up to add weight to fine hair.

3. Boho Braids

One of the biggest trends of the moment is braids. Boho braids have adorned the heads of many a celebrity, from Jennifer Lopez to Nicole Richie in recent months, and is the perfect summer style for ‘2nd-day hair’.

Start by taking small sections of your hair at your parting or hairline, then braid to the ends. Secure with a clear elastic and lightly spritz the braid with a spray gel. We like Paul Mitchell Soft Sculpting Spray Gel. Loosely tuck the bottom of the braid under other pieces of hair so that the ends aren’t visible. For a more romantic look, lightly tease the hair for a more undone look. Finish with Paul Mitchell Soft Spray for flexible hold that won’t weight your hair down.

4. Layered Bob

Jennifer Aniston recently wowed the media by cutting off her signature tresses in favour of a shorter style. Introducing a darker caramel tone to her California blonde locks has given her more warmth, and this is fastly becoming ‘The’ summer style of 2011.

The trick to maintaining this look is to add volume to the root before blow drying. I recommend Paul Mitchell Extra Body Boost to give your hair some lift. Pump a small amount of Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum into your palms and run through the ends to protect against split ends, and finish with Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops for a healthy dose of shine!
