Having worked at Bath & Unwind for some time now, I have more or less determined my skin type, what it likes and doesn’t like, and what products work best for me. This has only happened because I am surrounded by quality products everyday, and by people who have a real passion for beauty. In fact Emily, our head buyer (and qualified facialist) has sat down with me more than once to discuss my concerns. Before working here, I was so overwhelmed by choices and descriptions of products that all sounded like they ‘might’ treat my concerns, that I usually opted to do nothing.

I’ve determined that I have pretty textbook combination skin: a shiny t-zone with extremely dry areas. Anyone who has combo skin can attest to the fact that few products really deal with it in a balanced way. As a result, it is hard to find something that will tackle the dryness without overstimulating the shine. Or at least, it was.

Today, the new Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum landed on my desk. Until now I had not fully hopped on the serum bandwagon, because I didn’t really understand why I needed it in addition to a moisturiser. For those of you who might be in the same boat, let me explain quickly. Think of a serum as the treatment stage to your skincare routine, to be used after you cleanse, but before you moisturise. Serums prep your skin to absorb your moisturiser better, as well as treating specific conditions, as is the case with the S.O.S. serum, which is for dehydrated skin.

With the weather changes lately, my skin has been on the parched side of combination, so as soon as I got my hands on this serum, I gave it a try. The scent is lovely, as Caudalie products are known for. It absorbed immediately, and I could see and feel the difference. My dry skin has relaxed, it is no longer so tight and irritated. Afterward, I used just a small amount of Rituals Sakura Magic Touch Body Cream on the most problematic areas (I recommend you use your favourite facial moisturiser, this just happened to be what I had at hand!). As with anything that can drag my face into some sort of balance, I will definitely be keeping this serum in my routine, and I look forward to trying more gems from the new Caudalie Vinosource range.
