My latest purchase has been the Bare Escentuals Get Started Complexion Kit. For a while I had been thinking about trying something different from my regular cream foundation, which has usually completely slipped off my face by lunchtime and was possibly a little too orange for my pale skin.
Bare Escentuals promises that its natural mineral makeup won’t cause any aggravation to sensitive skin, making it perfect for those with acne or rosacea. Many reviewers claim the products even help to keep their skin clear and blemish free, thanks to the natural ingredients and lack of talc or preservatives which can irritate. It is also naturally SPF15 for an added skin protecting bonus.
The starter kit comes with all the basics you need, including a how-to DVD. The DVD was easy to follow and within only a few minutes I had perfected my technique. I’m not used to using brushes to apply my makeup, usually preferring to apply and blend with my fingertips, but all the brushes you need are included in the set and were easy to use. You get two shades of foundation to help you find your perfect match, which was great for me as I always feel a little lost trying to find the right colour for me when there’s so much choice. The Fairly Light shade suited me best, but I might need something a little warmer if the sun ever comes out long enough to give a bit more colour to my face.
The foundation is also a concealer, all you need is a change of brush and it glides on really easily for a barely there look. Because it is so creamy when applied, it conceals blemishes much better than my previous concealer sticks. The Warmth All-Over Face Color adds a fresh sunkissed glow (but it’s quite strong so apply sparingly) and the Mineral Veil completes the look. I did find using the included primer left my skin a little shiny by the end of the day, but just using it on my cheeks or using a mattifying fluid beforehand has solved this problem for me. I might try the Prime Time Oil Control Primer instead next time which would suit my skin better.
Bare Minerals creates a really natural look and you do feel and look like you are not wearing makeup at all – but all your blemishes are hidden and you give the impression of having naturally flawless skin. I’ve always preferred a natural look, but if you prefer to be more made up you can just add another layer of the mineral foundation for extra coverage.
