Little beauties for little beauties

Long eyelashes

Martha’s lush lashes

My 2 year old daughter has the most amazing eyelashes. Sadly she doesn’t get them from me so I’m having to hold back my desire to play with hers and test out all the fabulous mascaras we sell. Not that I’m into children wearing makeup. Beauty pageants like this make me want to scream and already I can’t bear the thought of my little girl growing up and plastering her face to look like someone out of TOWIE.

Ridiculous makeup aside, there are lots of gorgeous products on the market that I would encourage parents to use on their children and here are my top ten recommendations for little ones (oh and the odd suggestion for all the amazing hot mammas out there too).

Love Boo Baby Splashy Bubbles

1)         Love Boo Baby Splashy Bubbles
Aside from the very pretty packaging, these bubbles smell divine and are packed with lots of goodies to keep baby skin nice and soft.

2)      Baby Bee Multipurpose Ointment

Having a pot of ointment that can be used all over is really handy and this one contains shea butter which naturally nourishes the skin and prevents dryness everywhere.

3)      Jason Earth’s Best Mineral Sunscreen SPF30

Not all sunscreens are paraben free but this one is and I find SPF30 is high enough in the UK sunshine for my daughter’s skin.

Bloom & Blossom Mother & Baby Oil4)      Bloom and Blossom Mother and Baby Oil

Like most mothers, babies love massages and this chemical-free product is full of natural plant oils which soften and smooth the skin. The lavender also helps calm, making it the perfect thing to apply before bedtime.

5)      This Works Baby Sleep Pillow Spray

I’ve yet to meet a parent who won’t try anything to get their children to sleep soundly! This is my hero product and all the natural ingredients mean that it’s safe to use on little babies as well. Don’t miss out on the Christmas edition for adults too!

Ruby & Ed Lace Up Baby Booties with Seal Pup Toy6)      Ruby + Ed Lace Up Baby Booties

How cute are these? Sadly my daughter has out-grown her baby pair, and Ruby + Ed are yet to make sizes for children, however they are definitely on my Christmas shopping list for my 3 month old niece.

7)      Mama Mio Pregnancy Essentials Kit

My best friend is due to have triplets any day now. Yes triplets! When she found out I sent her this pack containing three (her new lucky number) essential potions to help her look after her own body. Mama Mio Pregnancy Essentials Kit

8)      MOP Pear Detangler

I’m a big fan of most MOP products and this one has become my favourite after having to deal with my daughter’s crazy blonde locks. This product, used with a tangle teaser, helps save a lot of tears when it comes to yanking knotty hair.

Jason Earth’s Best Strawberry & Banana Toothpaste9)      Jason Earth’s Best Strawberry & Banana Toothpaste

Tooth brushing has become a massive deal in my household. My husband and I take turns each night to convince our daughter it’s a good thing to do. We’ve tried everything – electric toothbrush, reward chart, singing songs and even bribes. But she remains unconvinced and the battle of wills continues. One thing that did give us a glimmer of hope was this yummy-tasting toothpaste which is fluoride free so perfect for children like mine who just like to suck and swallow the paste.

A happy little Martha

10)   Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist

Every morning I wake up to the sound of my daughter calling out ‘Mummmmmmmmyyyyy’. It’s usually around 7am – even on a Sunday. To help me wake up, I use this fabulous spray which refreshes my face and gives a balanced start to the day. It’s now become such a ritual that my daughter also likes to get involved and we take turns to spray each other, much to her delight. It definitely does the trick…although obviously I still have to have my morning grapefruit before I’m completely fully functioning!

Reviewed: Mama Mio Bootcamp For Tummies

I have always been an exercise phobe, and I have always been happy to admit that. Recently, I found myself running the Bristol 10K with a few other members of the Bath & Unwind team. Now, what would possess me to sign up for something like this if I hate exercising so much, I hear you ask?  Well, I am (very, very soon!) off to Mexico for a week of sunbathing and bikini action, and although I have always been slim(ish), I thought I had better shape up a bit and get a proper bikini bod.

Now, sweating it out on the treadmill a few times a week is going to get you fitter and you will possibly lose a bit of weight, but ultimately it’s not going to tone you up. So, did I dedicate my soul to the gym and spend 3 nights a week training for the 10K, and then spend the other 4 nights dancing around in front of the gym mirrors with a big inflatable ball and weights trying to tone, tone, tone while trying not to look like a total fool? No, I can’t say I did… instead I got my hands on the Mama Mio Bootcamp For Tummies Kit for all my toning needs (after all, my stomach is the only place I really wanted to tone up a bit!).

Mama Mio Bootcamp for Tummies

Mama Mio’s Bootcamp For Tummies is perfect for anyone who wants to tighten and tone their stomach muscles – whether you have a post-baby tummy (and would rather have a mid-afternoon nap than drag yourself to the gym!), if you want to shape up for your annual summer holiday (like me!) or if you just want to be able to fit into *those* jeans again.

In the pack, you get a bottle of Mama Mio Skin Tight Toning Serum 100ml, a bottle of Mama Mio Get Waisted Body Shaper 100ml (these are both full size products, so besides everything  else – you get a saving!) and finally a really informative and helpful flip-book containing specific stomach muscle exercises for you to do for around 4 minutes a day. The book also contains information on why your stomach isn’t perhaps as flat or solid as you would like it to be and it also gives you lots of information on how to check your rectus abdominis muscle and how the Tupler Technique can help you. I think this book alone is worth a read – I must admit I knew nothing about these before!

Mama Mio Bootcamp bookSo, every evening (or every morning if you are that way inclined – personally, I rarely have time to spare after my morning shower), you firstly apply one pump of the Skin Tight Toning Serum all over your stomach area, followed by a pump of the Get Waisted Body Shaper. I was pleasantly surprised how little you need of both of these to cover the whole area. As I only needed to use these once a day for 30 days, I do have quite a bit left – so I’m going to keep using them until they are finished to help my tummy to look tip-top for a bit longer. The serum literally sinks in more or less straight away, so there is no waiting around before you can apply the Body Shaper.

Mama Mio suggest humming a happy tune whist waiting for these to sink in; I thought this was a cracking idea, but by the time I think of a happy tune, they have already soaked in and it is time to get dressed! Both of the products are a lovely addition to your daily routine. I quite liked using them in the evening as I found the fragrances soothing and relaxing.

The second part of the bootcamp is the exercises; these take up no more than 4 minutes of your time a day, but because you have to do them everyday for 30 days, they do require some dedication. You do these sitting down, so I have been doing mine in work. They are pretty inconspicuous – there’s no crunches, sit ups or jumping around on your desk, so you can just do them while you are carrying on with your work or watching the TV in the evening – and no one will even know you are doing exercises (apart from you!).

After doing this for 30 days, I can definitely say there are results. My tummy is smoother, more taught and I can do up my super tight jeans (which I must admit I haven’t been able to do for a while – but don’t worry world – I promise I will never wear them outside of the house!).

I am really happy with the results I have seen, and I would recommend this to anyone who just has that one main problem area they would like to concentrate on. Mama Mio also have bootcamp kits for Boobs, Butts and Arms, so they have solutions for most women’s problem areas. I am ready to hit the beach with confidence now. Mexico – here I come!

Turn back the clock with cosmeceuticals

Simply put, cosmeceuticals are beauty products such as moisturisers, serums and eye creams that are full of extremely high concentrations of biologically active ingredients.  It is claimed by most cosmeceutical brands that these products can be used to combat the ageing process and achieve results to envy cosmetic surgery and invasive treatments such as Botox….but at a fraction of the price and with no needles!

Although you may be cynical, it appears that many aren’t. The Cosmeceuticals market has doubled in the past five years and is set to double again by 2016. It is reportedly worth over 102 million pounds, proving that many women (and men) must be experiencing amazing, noticeable results.

With the going rate for a facelift somewhere around the £5k mark, you really can’t afford to ignore the Cosmeceuticals trend. Here’s our pick of the best now available at – guaranteed to turn back the clock, without going near a knife!

  • Preventative Treatments

It’s never too early to start using night treatments! Alpha H Liquid Gold Intensive Night Repair Serum when applied 2 to 3 nights a week after cleansing and before your preferred night cream will take years off. Bath & Unwind customers using this product have reported a “noticeable tightening” of their skin, particularly their forehead and eye area within three months!

  • Crow’s Feet

Dr Brandt Time Arrest Eye Serum ( a celebrity favourite) uses unrivalled technology  to smooth out crows feet and provides a more lifted appearance. I can’t say who the gorgeous,  well known women of L.A are who swear by this product, but I can assure you they are certainly a great advert for it!

  • Boob Job/Tummy Tuck

It’s not just the face that sometimes needs a little extra work. Mama Mio Bootcamp for Boobs Kit is also know as a ‘Boob Job in a Box’ by it’s fans. Using another concoction of active ingredients to fight the sag and droop, this product gets 5 stars from every customer that has reviewed it.  Some people have even admitted to using it on their face… but you didn’t hear that from me!

  • Instant Face Lift

Perricone MD High Potency Amine Complex Face Lift has the highest levels of active ingredients present in any Perricone MD product. It contains 700% more Vitamin C (a key cosmeceutical player) than it’s predecessor and will lift, tighten and define. Not only will skin appear noticeably younger over time (give it a month or two)  but this product will also leave you with an immediate radiant glow.

NB: Just one thing to mention. With all products that contain active ingredients – so that’s ones that are fighting acne, pigmentation, scarring or ageing, it is normal for skin to tingle and mildly burn or turn red temporarily. The more you use the products,  the less this will happen as your skin gets used to it. Don’t be alarmed. However, if you are really experiencing discomfort stop using the product immediately.
